Eligibility and Format

To participate in SBMT, you must be a 3rd - 8th grader in the 2019-2020 school year.

The test for all grades consists of 25 short answer questionst to be answered in 45 minutes. All answers should be written in legible handwriting and a #2 pencil, and should follow the list of mathematical conventions for this tournament found here .

Tests will be manually graded, and if a grader cannot read an answer or it is not within the box provided, the grader will simply mark it incorrect.

While tests are arranged roughly in order of problem difficulty, the team may make judgement errors so it is encouraged participants attempt all of the problems. All questions are solvable without the use of a calculator. Calculators and other computational aids are not permitted for use in the contest.

Aids such as protractors, rulers, compasses, are permitted. If you any questions about further things to bring, please contact us at

SBMT will be offering prizes to over 60 of our contestants! All contestants ranking from 1st to 5th in their respective grades will receive customized SBMT trophies, in addition to prizes from our sponsors such as AoPS books & certificates, WolframAlpha Pro Subscriptions, AlphaStar Academy gift certificates, etc.! Prize money can total to over a $100! Details about prizes are subject to change.

Mini-Event winners receive prizes specific to their mini-events, gear from our sponsors, and medals!

Scoring and Tiebreakers

A contestant's score will be determined by the amount of questions that they answer correctly. In the event of a tie within the top 10, the tie will be broken by the last question answered correctly, i.e. if one participant answers #25 correctly, while the other gets it incorrect, the first participant will rank higher.
